Dispute Fraudulent Credit Inquiries

Consumers may dispute or request blocking or correction of hard inquiries they believe resulted from identity theft. Inquiry disputes require specific dates and company names; outcomes are not guaranteed.

Inquiries vs. account disputes

An inquiry dispute targets a credit pull record, not a full tradeline. Include inquiry date, company name, and which bureau lists the inquiry.

What to include

  • Inquiry date
  • Company or furnisher name
  • Bureau listing the inquiry (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, etc.)
  • Statement that you did not authorize the inquiry
